Guan Yu

I lost count on the number of hrs I spent on this one. Spent way too much time on this, to the point where it's no longer enjoyable working on it anymore. So when I thought the character was already detailed enough, I quickly slapped in a background and call it done. Finishing it for the sake of finishing it. Lots of things I don't like about it, the boring composition, boring pose, and of course the sloppy background And one of my colleague pointed out, that he is holding his big sword (I don't know it's called in english) too near the head. It was so obvious... but it will have to do, cus I'm not going back to it anymore. I started focusing on the details on him too early I guess. By the way, he is Guan Yu (关羽) of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. On to the next!

Giant

All right... this blog ain't dead yet! I finally managed to find some time and motivation to work on something for my portfolio. Its the most finished looking piece I have ever done to date... i think (I know the shield looks like a last minute job) . Spent a few nights after work and some time over the weekend working on this, around 10hrs or so, trying to get it looking as polished as GY-possible... apparently it still doesn't quite hit the mark (got some feedbacks from several people). There are some other stuffs about this piece which i'm not quite happy about like the composition, design of the big guy etc... all because I did not explore any ideas, just jumping right into colour after doing a rough sketch. But it's ok, this is just a warm up. There will be more to come and it will be better than before. Also posted the process.

More free time...

So i have more free time in the studio. Not wanting to slack, i painted this as a practice. Very much inspired by Mr M@'s work...

The jester

This jester started out looking quite different from how it looks now. It started as a sketch which my friend said he liked, the face to be precised. So he ask if i can make a jester out of the sketch because he wanted to model it. And so he told me his idea...and..this is the end result. And i'm sad to say it didn really turn out to be what he wanted. But its ok. He went ahead and started modelling it anyway...and its good practice for me.

edited: Did a little tweak and posted the wip.
